Manufacturer: Marathon Coatings
Marathon Rustcote is a waterbased rust converter. It is applied like a primer to rusted surfaces (after removal of any loose rust) and it converts the remaining surface rust into a protective black layer (Iron Phosphate). This seals out moisture, protecting against future corrosion. It can then be painted over.
A second coat of rust converter will provide a greater level of protection. An optional top coat of oil-based paint is all that is needed to provide outdoor protection to your new surface. Because it’s water-based, Marathon Rustcote is environmentally safe, non-flammable, safe to use, and is ideal to apply where blast cleaning or mechanical abrading is not possible.

Surface Preparation: Detergent wash to remove oil, grease, salt or chemical contaminants. Remove loose or flaking rust and paint with wire brush, scraper or other mechanical tools. Clean water rinse to remove detergent, dirt and contamination. Always test type of surface to ensure suitability and desired result. Apply test area according to the application procedures.
Typical Use: Where blast cleaning or mechanical abrading is not possible.
Application: Two coats are recommended for most applications.
Brush: Recommended, particularly for the first coat to ensure full rust penetration.
Spray and Roller: Also suitable. Pour sufficient for the task into clean plastic container. DO NOT RETURN material that may have rust contamination.
