Surface Preparation

Remove oil, grease and all other contamination by alkaline or high pressure (steam) cleaning in combination with appropriate detergents. Remove rust scale, loose mill scale, loose rust and loose coatings by scraping and wire brushing to St 2/3 (ISO 8501-1 : 1988), blast cleaning to Sa 21⁄2 (ISO 8501-1 : 1988) or sanding, followed by priming with the recommended RUST-OLEUM Primers. Sand previous coatings in good condition to provide a key for adhesion and check compatibility. The surface must be clean and dry during application.

 Typical Paint System

Suitable Primer to manufactures recommendation

7500 Alkythane 1 x 75µm (Dry Film Thickness)

Typical Use: Rust-oleum Alkythane 7500 should be applied on metal surfaces primed with Rust-oleum Alkyd primers. Rust-oleum Alkythane 7500 is intended for brush and roller application and can also be applied by spray. On properly primed or previously coated surfaces Rust-oleum Alkythane 7500 offers corrosion protection in a light industrial environment. For metal structures in a more aggressive industrial environment, application of an additional Rust-oleum Alkyd primer or Alkythane 7500 finish is recommended.

Application: Temperature of air, substrate and coating material between 5 and 35°C and relative humidity below 85%. The substrate temperature must be at least 3°C above dew point.

Brush: Up to 10 vol. % with Rust-oleum Thinner 633. Use natural bristles, longhair brushes.

Roller: Up to 10 vol. % with Rust-oleum Thinner 633. Use short nap, perlon 8 or mohair 4 -6 mm rollers. Roller application may require 2 coats to achieve the recommended dry film thickness.

Air-atomised Spray: 10 to 30 vol. % with Rust-oleum Thinner 641. Gravity cup and pressure cup. Tip size: 1.0 - 1.5 mm Atomising pressure: 2 - 4 bar.

Airless spray: Up to 20 vol. % with Rust-oleum Thinner 641. Pneumatic and electric airless equipment. Tip size: 0.009-0.013 inch Fluid pressure: 150 - 200 bar. Check wet film thickness, avoid excessive film thickness.

Cleanup: Use Rust-oleum Thinner 160 or mineral spirits.
